Wellness IS … Freedom!

“The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.” (Proverbs 22:7)

Our health doesn’t just happen – we have to make an investment into our bodies and our lives.  We need to be intentional and proactive with it.  If we are passive about it, our health will ultimately decline quicker than it was made to do.

Years ago, I took Larry Burkett’s Crown Financial Ministries course through my church.  We had multiple scripture verses to memorize for the class.  The one that still sticks with me years later was Proverbs 22:7 “The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.”  That one scripture right there convicted me to never use another credit card, or be in debt to anyone for anything ever again.  I never wanted to be under the rule of the enemy, the devil himself – for anything – including my health.  As I talked about in my blog series from last month, you can take the “being a good steward with your finances” and replace the word “finances” with “health” and it would “preach” the same.

Don’t be a Slave to the Lender!

I am going to make some bold, if not controversial statements here.  The fact of the matter is, there are very few people today who are brought up to avoid the packaged and processed foods and consume real food instead.  We have been enticed and even bombarded with the so-called conveniences of life, that to exert any kind of physical activity to accomplish even the simplest of daily tasks is looked upon with pity, if not even foolishness.  Far too many people have bought into the lie “I can sleep when I’m dead” philosophy and push their bodies far too closely to the edge of the sleep deprivation cliff.  And water?  Who has time to go to the bathroom, we have too many things on the overflowing calendar to take time to empty our bladders!  In each of these cases we have become “slaves” to the powers that be – the processed food industry, the corporate hospital system, the insurance companies and of course big Pharma – and let’s throw the media in there for good measure, after all, that is who is being paid by each of these entities to promote all of their malarky!

If we don’t maintain our boundaries with every single one of these entities, we become slaves to the “lender.”  I am not saying there isn’t a time and a place for each of these, but we have been sucked in and become complacent and even dependent on each of them.  We have allowed their messages and commodities to rule over us.  In essence we have surrendered our health to them to control.  It has gone way beyond the intended purpose of each of them – we have gone from “in case we need” to dependence.

A life lived like this is “borrowing” on the health we need to last us 80, 90 or even 100 years old, making us a slave to our physical bodies and the rapid decline of our health.  But it doesn’t have to be that way!  Wellness truly can be freedom!  We just need to take charge of our health and our bodies, rather than allowing those entities that have contributed to us being in the place of chronic sickness and disease to control the level of our wholistic health.

What Wellness IS:

In my book “Are You Being Deceived About True Wellness?” I go into detail on what wellness actually is.  For starters, it entails making a paradigm shift in our thinking by moving away from what we have been told wellness is – again, by the above entities, and understand the truth about what wellness really is.

Wellness IS a life change

If you keep on doing what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always gotten! (the definition of insanity!).

Wellness IS a lifetime commitment

There is a difference between a desire to doing or wanting something, and a commitment to it.  We can want all day long to lose 50 pounds, become a millionaire or be a better Christian, but until we move from a desire to a commitment, nothing will change.

Wellness IS bringing the body back to good health

There is a big difference between managing a chronic disease, even with a natural supplement or other natural approaches; and restoring the body back to good health.  You first need to decide what your priority is, then align yourself with those approaches that meet your objective, including any practitioners you might need to walk alongside of you.  You can’t fit a round peg in a square hole – another words a disease management doctor simply does not know how to restore your health – and vice versa.

Wellness IS discipline

Just keep taking one step in front of the other, one day at a time, for a lifetime.  Wellness is not only a discipline it is a lifetime commitment.

Wellness IS your insurance

When you take care of your health – wholistically – the likelihood of you going to your grave too early and on a handful of meds due to the need to manage all the chronic diseases you might have acquired over your lifetime, goes down tremendously when you take care of your health.

Wellness IS common sense simple!

Wellness really is not hard – we just make it hard by trying to avoid and ignore the truths.  We already know what it takes to be healthy – rest, exercise, water, good nutrition and good nerve supply.  It’s when we try and avoid these at all costs for the “quick fix” way instead that it becomes complicated.  Our bodies and our health and the way to maintain them hasn’t changed from the time God created the first man and the first woman.  It’s still common sense simple!

In Summary

Once you grab hold of this paradigm shift and these concepts, you will be well on your way to truly pursuing what wellness is – FREEDOM!
