When I think about this hike, I think of one of the first friends I made on the Appalachian Trail – Jennifer Legler. Jennifer was the gal I met last year while we were brushing our teeth in the bathhouse at Uncle Johnny’s hostel in Erwin, TN. God’s sense of humor never ceases to amaze me and how He can divinely connect us up with other’s when we least expect it, and sometimes, in the most unusual places and ways.
Amicalola Falls is the approach trail to the very southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, Springer Mountain, GA.
Jen dropped me off this beautiful, peaceful morning before 7:00 a.m., and before the park office of Amicalola Falls State Park was even open for the day. Therefore, I had the whole park to myself – what a sweet, sweet way to start the morning and another hike – in solitude with Jesus, in the creation of the Father, hiking and climbing along a rushing stream, that grew into a crescendo of roaring falls the higher we climbed. This waterfall is the highest waterfall east of the Mississippi — and there was not another soul around to disturb my peace and tranquility with Jesus.
