My last hike for the season. It was the last piece I needed in order to connect up the very beginning of the Trail at Springer Mountain, GA including 8.8 miles of the approach trail at Amicalola Falls, to Grayson Highlands State Park in VA.
I met my shuttle driver one more time this season at Dick’s Creek where I would leave my car and he then drove me north to Winding Stair Gap where I started my hike heading south. Dick’s Creek is where I finished my long day hike back in August going northbound, connecting two smaller sections, and Winding Stair is where I met my newer hiking partner Jonathan and his friend Ron, and eventually another new hiking partner Charlie for our Labor Day hike where we also hiked north.
Summary of my backpacking the AT to date: 589.2 miles TOTAL so far. Hiked 46 days total to date for an average of 12.8 miles per day. Hiked 6 days, averaged 10.3 miles per day over 62 miles in 2000. Hiked 3 days averaged 11.3 miles per day over 33.9 miles in 2009. Hiked 18 days averaged 12.4 miles per day over 223.6 miles in 2013. Hiked 18 days, averaged 14.9 miles per day over 269.7 miles in 2014. 12 out of 46 days of hiking there was rain.
