Book 2, Chapter 18 – Appalachian Trail – Swatara Gap to Bake Oven Knob, PA – September 2-6, 2017 – 66.7 miles

Last hike for the season. I did a 4-1/2 day hike for a total of 66.7 miles.  Let me just preface by saying backpacking the Appalachian Trail isn’t all peaches and cream, sometimes it is darn right miserable as it was the day I finished the state of Pennsylvania.  As a hiking partner once said “none of it is easy, if it was everybody would be dong it.”  No truer words were spoken.

The first 2-1/2 days were with my “little cousin” Abby and Nate. We did Swatara Gap to Port Clinton, PA (35.5 miles).

I then went back out the following day for another 2 days heading southbound from Bake Oven Knob Rd. back to Port Clinton (31.2 miles), to finally finish the rocky state of PA! This was a tough state and glad it is finished.

This makes a total of 7 states completed leaving 7 more to go. I now have a total of 1,302.5 +/- miles completed, leaving a total of 887+/- miles still to do. Getting, there, getting there!
