Appalachian Trail – PA 944 to Swatara Gap – April 15-18, 2017 – 47 miles

We dubbed this hike as the “Cousins Hike” — my second cousin once removed, Abby joined us this hike, and Jonathan’s cousin Nate was with us as well.

Some hikes retain vivid memories in my mind not so much for what I experienced on the Trail, but the hostels that accommodate us at times.  I can’t say this was a pleasurable experience, but it certainly has carved out a place of it’s very own in my memory — probably forever!  The Doyle Hotel.

Knocked off another 47 miles in “Rocksylvania” on the AT. Truthfully, it was quite a pleasant hike — the weather was amazingly wonderful (especially for PA in April!), the Trail surprisingly not too rocky and the company, as always, great.

The beauty of section-hiking the AT is you can choose which direction you want to go, where to start and finish at any given trip etc. What is also great about section-hiking is simply the drive to and from the trailheads/starting points — why else would I ever be in Duncannon, PA?
