My backpacking mentors and Trail hosts, Bess and Jim reached out and invited me to hike a section of the Trail close to the NC/VA border. An area called Mount Rogers National Forest, and a park called Grayson Highlands State Park. After some tough months at work, I was ready to run off to the wilds of the Appalachian Mountains, maybe forever!
